The Birds and the Bees

An article Media Psychology published in 2008 discussed the effect the Media has on adolescents when dealing with exposure to sexual content and behavior. It brings up various theories stating children learn from the media and then translate what they see into their own day-to-day behavior. The article stated that when these things occur is when children are more susceptible; "a) the role model is similar to the viewer (e.g., gender matched), b) the behavior and/or context are ‘‘realistic’’ (i.e., similar to real life), c) the role model is attractive, and d) the behavior is positively reinforced." Because of this, it is common for children to have the urge to seek out sexual content in shows, movies, video games, etc.

Within the article, several studies were used to show all the various "sexual activities" children participate in rather than merely playing basketball outside. One study was given randomly to both genders and very different backgrounds turned out huge percentages with each category listed, varying from deep kissing, touching breasts, eventually leading to vaginal sex. That's ridiculous! What ever happened to the kid days of light-up shoes and Gullah Gullah Island? I'm all about embracing the new days, but not the new days with babies having babies. That should be considered an oxymoron.

Stop Whining

According to latimes.com, an article stated that yesterday during the fight for the healthcare bill, Democratic congressman Rep. Bart Stupak was fortunate to hear the voice of the people. Someone shouted "baby killer" as he was attempting to quiet down the noise. The congressman opposed the bill due to the particular abortion language UNTIL he supposedly made a deal with the White House on Sunday; he was interrupted when was speaking against the Republican motion to kill the bill Sunday night. The congressman then immediately grunted and yelled, "Who said that?" Prior to Sunday, Republicans were against the bill due to it allowing "federal funding for abortions beyond the current limits of cases of rape, incest or if the mother's life is in danger." Apparently, the objection was going to threaten the healthcare bill's chance of passing through, but Obama stepped in and promised the federal funds will remain in tact. This then won the support when the vote came out to be 219-213.

When I read the headline for this article at the top, it literally made me laugh out loud. I thoroughly enjoy when politicians get frustrated and rubbed the wrong way by the people. They become so frazzled and seem to lose the power to speak, which is their primary job description. I could honestly care less about which political side the objection was directed towards, I'm just glad someone said something. We should be allowed to shout whatever we want to shout, especially when it takes politicians off guard. The video attached to the article is the supposed video of the incident, but I could barely understand anything that was going on due to various interruptions. Maybe you can understand the ridiculousness.

They got the beat

This particular website is essentially what I wish my blog could be. It's mission is to sift through the "sausage" of the media, and give both the news and an analysis. They are trying to take what the media is throwing out there to us, and then making sure it is both true and worth knowing about. It has won several awards for their reporting and such.

I like how they have several topics on the side of the site that allow you to choose what you can look through; if you only care about the movies, click on the movies. Surprisingly, it is only run by a handful of people who are responsible for sifting through all the news. It's crazy stuff!

Low Blow

MTV's most watched show Jersey Shore is still being talked about, even despite it's January 21st season one finale. TMZ.com recently posted an article discussing MTV has being slammed with a new lawsuit concerning the memorable fight Ronnie had one night on the Jersey boardwalk. According to TMZ, the other couple who were supposedly provoking Ronnie and Sammie is claiming MTV edited the real footage to where the comments that were said by Ronnie and Sammie were cut out. This couple, Joshua Thomas and Kristin Perrenod, have stated that the original footage of the fight apparently has Ronnie spouting off "homophobic slurs and other insults before the incident became violent." This lovely couple also has the nerve to assert the fact that they were intoxicated to the point where they do not recollect signing the waivers MTV presented to them following the fight.

Yes, I will admit to participating alongside the millions of mindless people who actually set aside time to watch the Jersey Shore, so because of this unfortunate decision of mine, I was actually angered by this new information. This supposed couple who probably had five seconds of fame, and maybe a few hardcore battle wounds from Ronnie, most likely woke up one morning in the past couple of days and decided to screw MTV over. Joshua and Kristin are merely upset because they did not make more face time on the popular show. Their lawsuit for MTV is a cry for attention, not a campaign to restore their name. Each of their mothers should be ashamed on both the fact that Joshua and Kristen were drunk on the boardwalks of Jersey and made a violent appearance on a MTV show, and now that they are trying to file a lawsuit over it. Tsk-tsk.

Thumb War

After the infamous Superbowl ended, the world seemed to gravitate towards a "thumb war" rather than celebrate a football victory. Megan Fox had the starring role for the Motorola commercial, and so did someone else's thumb. Rumors came spilling out about a possible thumb stand-in for Megan Fox due to her supposed "stumpy thumbs". When there is a closeup in the commercial of her holding the phone, a normal looking thumb is actually present. Really? Her thumb is that hideous? That's taking it a little too far for a 30 second commercial. Watch for yourself.
