An article Media Psychology published in 2008 discussed the effect the Media has on adolescents when dealing with exposure to sexual content and behavior. It brings up various theories stating children learn from the media and then translate what they see into their own day-to-day behavior. The article stated that when these things occur is when children are more susceptible; "a) the role model is similar to the viewer (e.g., gender matched), b) the behavior and/or context are ‘‘realistic’’ (i.e., similar to real life), c) the role model is attractive, and d) the behavior is positively reinforced." Because of this, it is common for children to have the urge to seek out sexual content in shows, movies, video games, etc.
Within the article, several studies were used to show all the various "sexual activities" children participate in rather than merely playing basketball outside. One study was given randomly to both genders and very different backgrounds turned out huge percentages with each category listed, varying from deep kissing, touching breasts, eventually leading to vaginal sex. That's ridiculous! What ever happened to the kid days of light-up shoes and Gullah Gullah Island? I'm all about embracing the new days, but not the new days with babies having babies. That should be considered an oxymoron.
